Welcome to Peak District Scenes....

Established in 1951 as Britain's first national park, the Peak District can now boast around 45 million day visitors every year. The statistic should hardly be surprising considering that an estimated 16 million people live within a one hour drive of the park boundaries.

126,000 acres of gritstone edges, limestone dales and peat moorland make the park a diverse area for both wildlife and landscape.

These galleries are an attempt to capture the beauty of the park, and some of its surrounding areas.

The High Peak
From the Dam Busters reservoirs near Bamford, across the hills to Castleton and Chapel-en-le-Frith, the High Peak is a very popular destination for visitors to the park.

The Eastern Edges
Much of the eastern fringes of the park are punctuated with gritstone cliffs, from Stanage Edge in the north, to Harland Edge in the south. A very popular place for rock climbers from all over the UK.

The Central Peak
Encompassing many of the most popular tourist destinations in the park, the central peak area is home to the town of Bakewell, famous for its puddings, lead mining centres such as Monyash, and the plague village of Eyam.

The Southern Dales
The southern area of the park is littered with deep limestone dales, the remnants of massive water movements through the soft rock during the last Ice Age. Places such as Lathkill Dale are popular tourist destinations, as well as Tissington and the beautiful Dove Dale.

The Western Moors
Marked by the spa town of Buxton, the moors to west of the park are a bleak and desolate place, but are full of atmosphere. The high road to Macclesfield meanders through these rolling hills, past the popular Cat and Fiddle Inn, thought to be the highest licenced public house in England at 1690 feet above sea level.
